The Indian Premier League (IPL) is getting super hot right now. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are losing matches, and everyone is blaming their captain, Ajinkya Rahane. He is not happy about it at all. After losing two games in a row, Rahane came to talk to the reporters, and he was looking very angry. One reporter asked him a question about his strike rate, and Rahane just lost his cool.
Rahane only scored 8 runs from 10 balls against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, which is really slow. But he told the reporter that he doesn’t care what people think. He said, “I think I have one of the best strike rates so far from 2023”. Then he said something very strong. He said that the people who are talking badly about him are not even watching the game properly. He thinks they have a “certain agenda” because they just don’t like watching him play cricket.
The KKR captain didn’t stop there. He started talking about how much success he has had in his life. Rahane said, “The amount of success that I got, I guess they are jealous of me”. He told everyone not to worry about him because he knows what he is doing. He said it was just one bad inning, but his “intent was there”. Sometimes batters just don’t get the right rhythm or flow, he explained to the reporters.
The reporter may have forgotten how good Rahane was in 2023. He joined the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) that year, and everyone saw a new Ajinkya. He scored 326 runs with a super-fast strike rate of 172.49 and helped CSK win the trophy. He even said that the win was dedicated to MS Dhoni. It was like a rebirth for his T20 career. But in 2024, he only got 242 runs, so CSK let him go, and then KKR made him the captain in 2025.

Even though his team is losing, Rahane says he is actually happy that people are talking about him. “They didn’t expect that Ajinkya Rahane would basically prove his game this much,” he said with a big smile. He told the critics to keep talking because he doesn’t care if it is negative or positive. “Let them talk,” he said. He is just going to keep playing his game and playing with freedom as he did with CSK.

If you look at the math, Rahane is not totally lying. Since 2023, his strike rate in the power play is 167.78, which is actually the second-best among Indian players. Only Abhishek Sharma is faster than him. So maybe the reporters are being a little too hard on the KKR captain. He is 37 years old, but he is still trying to hit the ball hard. He just had one bad day at the office.
So what do you think? Is Ajinkya Rahane right that everyone is jealous? Or does he need to score faster to save his team? Let’s hope for the best.
